The Filton Flyer 555 will take a circular route, providing an essential bus service for residents of Conygre Road and the wider Filton area, linking them with Bristol Parkway Station, Southmead Hospital, South Gloucestershire & Stroud College, supermarkets and other local facilities.
Cllr Ian Boulton said: “It was a pleasure to officially launch the new Filton Flyer 555 community bus service which will provide a much needed lifeline for local residents. This new service delivers a valuable transport link for the Filton community and will enable essential access to a variety of amenities including Parkway Station, health services and other isolated areas.”
Filton resident Howard Bowker said: “I believe this bus service will be a real asset to the community and I hope that the local residents will make full use of it.”
Another local resident, Jenny Stephens, said: “It’s a good idea. There are a lot of people like me who struggle to get up the hill to the shops and now we have a bus to take us.”
The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant low-floor minibus is thanks to funding of £50,000 which was awarded through the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) to the Southern Brooks Community Partnership.
The service will be run and managed by Severnside Transport Ltd, and all profits will go back in to the charity Four Towns and Vale Link Community Transport.
