Road Closure: Churchill Bridge Gyratory, Bath
Network Rail will be doing refurbishment works between June and October 2022 to the railway bridge to make sure it is safe for future use, more information about this and the potential closures / traffic impacts can be found on their website.
This page will be continuously updated as ongoing works and diversions are planned.
6th oct 2022 – 16th oct 2022
Churchill Bridge gyratory in Bath will be closed overnight to various services between 19:00 and 06:00 from Thursday 6th through to Sunday 16th October (except for Saturday 8th) for railway bridge works.
Service 2 towards Bus Station: Normal route.
Service 2 towards Fox Hill: Instead of turning left from the Bus Station are to turn right, onto Manvers Street, right into North Parade Road, right onto A36, left into St Matthews Place and left into Prior Park Road to resume normal route.
Services 4, 4a, 4b, 8, 41, 171, 172, 173, 174 & D2 heading towards Bus Station: Normal route
Services 4, 4a, 4b 8, 41, 171, 172, 173, 174 & D2 heading away from Bus Station: After leaving the Bus Station instead of turning left onto Churchill Bridge are to go onto the Ambury and right into Corn Street onto Dorchester Street (past bus station), Manvers Street right into North Parade Road, right onto A36 to resume normal Route to Wells Road from Churchill Bridge gyratory (part unaffected).
Thursday 6th & Friday 7th October Only
Service 20 heading towards Twerton – Normal route
Service 20 heading towards University: After serving Dorchester Street are to enter the Bus Station and turn right when exiting, into Manvers Street, right into North Parade Road, right onto A36, left into St Matthews
Place and left into Widcombe Hill to resume normal route.

Services 4b, 172, 174 and D2 will not be able to use the bridge. Diversions to follow.

30th May 2022 – 2nd June 2022
Between the 30th May 2022 and 1st of June overnight from 7pm to 7am the Gyratory will be closed to allow for major works to be carried out. This will affect both general traffic and bus services within the area. Please see the below map and list of diversions and stops during this time. Towards The Hub / Combe Down: Instead of turning left from the Bus Station are to turn right, onto Manvers Street, right into North Parade Road, right onto A36, left into St Matthews Place and left into Prior Park Road to resume normal route. (See above map in BLUE)
Alternative stopping arrangements: Dorchester Street (Bh) and Bewdley Road (SE-bound)
Service 20:
Towards Twerton: Normal routes as far as the bottom Widcombe Hill, turn right into St Matthews Place, right onto A36 left into North Parade Road and left again into Manvers Street to Bus Station. Service 20 to turn into Bus Station and when exiting turn right to resume normal route. (See map route in BLUE)
Towards University: Instead of turning left are to turn right and operate the reverse of the above to operate
normal route at Widcombe Hill.
Alternative stopping arrangements: To Twerton: Baptist Church (NE-bound), To University: The Tyning (E-bound) or Dorcester Street (Bh)
Services 4, 4a, 4b, 8, 41, 171, 172, 173, 174 & D2:
To Bath Bus Station: Normal route as far as the Wells Road/Oldfield Road junction, instead of continuing along Wells Road are to turn left into Upper Oldfield Park, left into Lower Oldfield Park onto Brougham Hayes, right into Lower Bristol Road into Pines Way, left into Midland Bridge Road, right into Green Park Road onto Corn Street onto St James Parade to Bus Station.
To Bath / Other destinations: After leaving the Bus Station instead of turning left onto Churchill Bridge are to go into Broad Quay onto the Ambury and left into Corn Street then the reverse of the above.
Alternative stopping arrangements: Bear Flat (A), Bear Flat (B) and Dorchester Street
