Quicker, safer, easier

Improvements to cycling and pedestrian routes form a key part of the MetroBus project and will make it quicker, easier and safer to travel by bike or on foot.

Bristol city centre

We’re making major improvements to Bristol city centre. This includes creating improved public spaces for the enjoyment of everyone. As part of these improvements we will be reducing traffic around the cenotaph and providing new segregated paths for cyclists.

South Bristol

The South Bristol link will connect Hengrove to the Park and Ride at Long Ashton. A new shared cycle and footpaths will run along its entire four and a half kilometre length. This path will link with the Festival Way and Malago Greenway cycleways.

Long Ashton Park and Ride to Cumberland Road

A new traffic-free two and a half kilometre cycle path will connect with Festival Way, the Harbourside and the local cycling network.

Harbourside and Avon Crescent

New safer crossings at Avon Crescent and Cumberland Road will link the Harbourside, Avon Crescent, Ashton Avenue Bridge and the Create Centre.

A new access ramp from Cumberland Road will allow easy access to the Chocolate Path by Avon Crescent.

A new traffic-free underpass is being built between the Create Centre and the Harbourside.

Bathurst Basin to Redcliff Hill

New crossings will make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to move between Cumberland Road, Bathurst Basin Parade, Wapping Road and Commercial Road.

Redcliff Hill

New spaces for cyclists and pedestrians will connect Redcliff Hill with other cycle routes into the city including the Brunel Mile; that stretches from Bristol Temple Meads to the city centre via St Mary Redcliffe Church.

Crossings at St Mary Redcliffe roundabout and Bedminster Bridge will also be improved for pedestrians and cyclists.

A dedicated cycle route and improved pedestrian path is being provided between Bedminster Bridge and St Mary Redcliffe Roundabout.

An improved cycle route will be provided to link the new cycle provision on Redcliff Hill with the cycle path on Clarence Road.

North and East Fringe

There will be new cycle lanes with improved crossings on the existing cyclepath between Bromley Heath and Wick Wick roundabouts.

New cycle stands

MetroBus will provide cycle stands at all of its 94 bus stops.
