MetroBus Works Update: W/C 22nd May 2017

Winterstoke Road

The new Metrobus bridge is now in place and work has started to construct the guided busway on the bridge deck. The new bridge will guide MetroBus over the Bristol to Portishead railway line and under the elevated section of the A370.

Ashton Avenue Swing Bridge

The bridge has been restored and the shared cycle/footpath has been completed. The bridge will reopen next week.

Avon Crescent/Cumberland Road/Paxton Drive

A new guided busway is being installed to link the new bridge at the bottom of Winterstoke Road to Cumberland Road via Paxton Drive, Ashton Avenue Bridge and Avon Crescent.

Bathurst Basin Bridge

Our contractors are building a new bridge alongside the existing bridge which takes Commercial Road over the Bathurst Basin. We’re also linking two existing cycling and walking paths and improving the pedestrian crossings in this area.

Parson Street/Hartcliffe Way

Work on the new Hartcliffe Way bus lane is progressing well and is expected to be completed by autumn 2017.

The pedestrian crossings at the new Hartcliffe Way/Parson Street junction are now in operation. Overnight resurfacing works will take place at the new junction between tonight and Wednesday. Diversion routes will be in place between 7pm and 6am.

Work to upgrade the bus stop outside Parson Street railway station will commence on 31st May and take around 6 weeks. During this period the bus stop will be closed and buses will be diverted around the gyratory.

Temporary two-way traffic lights have been installed at the junction of Novers Lane and Hartcliffe Way until the end of this month to enable Wales and West Utilities to divert a large gas main and for the construction of a large retaining wall to support the south bank.

East Street

Work will begin soon to install a new MetroBus stop outside Wilko. East Street will be closed to vehicles for six weeks with buses being diverted via Dalby Avenue.

Bedminster Parade

Work to install new MetroBus stops on Bedminster Parade will start soon.

Hengrove Park, Bamfield and Whitchurch Lane

Work is underway in Hengrove Park which will see a one-way circulatory system introduced to improve traffic flows. The bus stop outside the hospital will be upgraded to become a MetroBus stop.

Improvement works to the junction of Whitchurch Lane and Bamfield will begin shortly, and be followed by upgrade work on to pairs of bus stops on Bamfield.

In Whitchurch Lane, underground cables will be installed to serve bus shelters and the new information points that will be installed at every MetroBus stop.

Brook Gate Junction

The Brook Gate connection to the South Bristol Link opened last week. The new road provides businesses in Brook Gate and on South Liberty Lane with direct access to the South Bristol Link.

The new connection has been designed to improve access for businesses and to reduce the number of HGVs using Winterstoke Road and the part of South Liberty Lane that is closest to Winterstoke Road. Previously, HGVs could only access the Ashton Vale industrial estate either by the narrow signal controlled railway bridge on South Liberty Lane or the height restricted bridge on Ashton Drive.
