MetroBus Works Update: W/C 27th March 2017

Winterstoke Road

The new Metrobus bridge is now in place and work has started to construct the guided busway on the bridge deck. The new bridge will guide MetroBus over the Bristol to Portishead railway line and under the elevated section of the A370.

Ashton Avenue Swing Bridge

Work on the bridge restoration is largely complete. The bridge will reopen when the Ashton Vale to Temple Meads MetroBus route opens.

Avon Crescent/Cumberland Road/Paxton Drive

A new guided busway is being installed to link the new bridge at the bottom of Winterstoke Road to Cumberland Road via Paxton Drive, Ashton Avenue Bridge and Avon Crescent.

Bathurst Basin Bridge

Our contractors are building a new bridge alongside the existing bridge which takes Commercial Road over the Bathurst Basin. We’re also linking two existing cycling and walking paths and improving the pedestrian crossings in this area.

Parson Street/Hartcliffe Way

Work to construct a new bus lane on Hartcliffe Way is progressing well and is expected to be completed by autumn 2017.

Temporary two-way traffic lights have been installed at the junction of Novers Lane and Hartcliffe Way until the end of May to enable Wales and West Utilities to divert a gas main.

The pelican crossing on Parson Street near Highbury Road has been temporarily closed to allow a retaining wall be moved back to widen the road. A temporary pedestrian is in place while the crossing is closed. The original pedestrian crossing is being moved to the nearby junction of Hartcliffe Way/Parson Street.

Sheene Road/West Street

Improvement works at the junction of Sheene Road, East Street and West Street are progressing well and are due to be completed by the end of w/c 3 April.

The new footways and traffic island are now complete and work to install the new traffic signals will commence soon.

West Street

Works to upgrade the bus stop outside the Jobcentre Plus office will be completed this week with the installation of the concrete bus pad. Work continues to build the new MetroBus stop in West Street opposite Palmyra Road outside Halfords Autocentre.

East Street

Work will begin in April 2017 to install a new MetroBus stop outside Wilkinsons. East Street will be closed to vehicles for six weeks with buses being diverted via Dalby Avenue.

Dalby Avenue

Work starts here today to install the new MetroBus stop. Work will last four weeks.

Bedminster Parade

New bus stops are being installed either side of Bedminster Parade close to Asda starting April 2017.

Hengrove Park, Bamfield and Whitchurch Lane

Works will begin w/c 18 April and are due to be completed in August.

In Hengrove Park, three roundabouts will be modified and a one-way circulatory system introduced to improve traffic flows. The bus stop outside the hospital will be upgraded to become a MetroBus stop.

In Whitchurch Lane, underground cables will be installed to serve bus shelters and the new information points that will be installed at every MetroBus stop.

Works will start Hengrove Park and progress to Whitchurch Lane, Bamfield South and Bamfield North through June, July and August.
