A38 resurfacing scheme

A £227,000 resurfacing scheme is set to go ahead in Churchill next month.

Starting on Monday 5 October, the work will see a section of the A38 New Road and Bristol Road from the junction of Skinners Lane through to The Churchill Inn. It is scheduled to take place over five nights between 8pm and 6am.

This is a main route so the work will inevitably cause some disruption and delay.

We are trying to minimise upheaval by carrying the work out at night. There will be a fully signed diversion in place for all vehicles including HGVs.

Cllr James Tonkin, North Somerset Council’s executive member whose portfolio includes transport

The scheme, being carried out by the council’s contractors Skanska, involves carriageway resurfacing, kerb repairs and footpath patching.

The contractor will look to carry out the noisier works early in the shift to reduce the noise disruption.

We have also allowed for Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 October as contingency days just in case we experience any delays or if the weather intervenes.

Anyone planning on using this route to get to Bristol Airport should consider an alternative route or allow extra time form their journey.

Cllr James Tonkin

The total cost of the scheme is £227,478 with a developer contribution of £23,520.91 towards the works.
