Residents across North Somerset are being encouraged to put their best foot forward and ‘walk this May’ for National Walking month.
North Somerset Council wants to highlight the many walking opportunities in North Somerset and celebrate what walking has brought to many people’s lives during the pandemic, inspiring others to start or to continue their walking as lockdown eases.
Several cafes across North Somerset are supporting National Walking Month by providing local walking routes. An extensive list of walking routes of up to four miles will be on the Go4Life website at https://www.n-somerset.gov.uk/walking, including routes which are suitable for people who use wheelchairs or who have limited mobility.
There will be a Walk A Mile A Day challenge throughout May to encourage people who are currently inactive to try and complete a mile a day, and there will also be an opportunity to win a prize draw by completing a survey.
Throughout the month there will be plenty of social media posts to support everybody to get more active. The council’s Physical Activity team would especially like to hear from anyone who is interested in helping to start a new walking group or would like to join an existing group.
