Upgrade to Bristol East Junction is on track

West of England Mayor Tim Bowles has welcomed yesterday’s announcement by the Prime Minister pledging to upgrade Bristol East Junction, so that passengers can travel in and out of Bristol more easily:

This is brilliant news for our region and a vital step in our plans for new destinations and services to make getting around the West of England easier, cleaner and more reliable.

I’m determined to improve the region’s railways and securing the investment in Bristol East Junction means that the new MetroWest network can be fully realised. The Prime Minister’s announcement is the result of a lot of hard work by my team and I with Network Rail and the Government to secure the commitments we need.

The announcement also means that we can get on with building a new Eastern Entrance into Temple Meads, funded through the West of England Combined Authority, at the same time that work is going on, saving money and inconvenience to passengers to make sure Temple Meads is a fitting gateway to the West of England.
