Students take road safety to the next level

Thanks to a new road safety awareness initiative, Wrecked West, organised by Bath & North East Somerset Council, students at Writhlington Sixth Form in Radstock are taking more care on the roads.

The campaign provides a high profile educational resource which discusses blame and consequence and encourages students to discuss and share situations they may find themselves in as road users and pedestrians.

Councillor Caroline Roberts (Lib-Dem, Newbridge), the Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “This campaign is a wonderful way of putting across some hard-hitting messages about how young people can stay safe on our roads, whether they are driving, cycling or walking.

Another student added: “I feel the road safety work has made us all pay more attention to the impact of accidents. It has been both positive and negative because some of the students don’t really want to think about their responsibility when driving. So, in a way, that is positive too!”
