Worle High Street improvement works to begin later in the year following programme revisions
Work to improve Worle High Street in Weston-super-Mare is set to get underway later in the year following changes to the construction programme designed to reduce disruption across the local road network.
As part of the Banwell Bypass project, East Street in Banwell will be closed for six weeks during the summer to allow essential highway improvement works. Although the closure itself is relatively small, the diversion route passes through Worle and close to the existing Queensway and Wolvershill Road Bridge improvement works.
To help minimise disruption, North Somerset Council has rescheduled the main Worle High Street works so they do not overlap with the East Street works. The council has also reduced the East Street construction programme from 10 weeks to five weeks and scheduled it during the school summer holidays, when traffic volumes are typically lower.
Together, these measures will help reduce pressure on the road network while keeping essential improvement projects moving forward.
Two smaller schemes on Nutwell Road and Greenwood Road will still take place during the school summer holidays. This phase of work will start on 27th July and last for approximately 6 weeks. These will be completed one at a time using temporary traffic signals rather than full road closures, helping to maintain access while avoiding disruption when schools return in September.
The wider High Street improvement scheme remains on track and will be delivered later this year.

The main improvements to Worle High Street will begin later this year, with further information on timings and construction phases shared with residents and businesses in advance of work starting.
For more information on the scheme, we are encouraging members of the public to visit our drop-in centre, which is located at the site compound, near the junction of Queensway and Walford Avenue. The drop-in centre will be open every Wednesday, between 08.00 – 16.00.
