Major Updates

Express bus services to start soon

The m2 Metrobus service, from Long Ashton Park & Ride via Temple Meads to the city centre, will start in Autumn. The m1 Metrobus service, from Hengrove to Cribbs Causeway, will start in January 2019.

The two routes follow the m3 Metrobus service which starts operating on Tuesday 29 May. To celebrate the launch of the m3, we are offering free travel from 29 May until 9 June.

The m2 and m3 services will be operated by First West of England.

We have recently been testing the Metrobus busway with First.  Our testing has identified a requirement for minor (20mm) adjustments to the road height at three of the bends along the 3km route. These adjustments are planned for mid-summer. This will be followed by a further round of bus testing and we are working together for the m2 service to start in Autumn this year.

Bristol Community Transport (BCT) are operating the m1. BCT are Bristol’s largest community transport operator and a part of the HCT Group, a leading transport social enterprise, which operates major transport contracts in London, Jersey, Guernsey and Leeds

BCT have ordered 21 biogas buses for the m1 route and are about to start work on the new gas refuelling facilities at their Bedminster depot. The buses used by BCT are carbon neutral and run on gas generated from food waste. We are looking for m1 services to start in January 2019.

BCT are creating 60 new jobs at their Bedminster depot and will be reinvesting all profits from the m1 service back into the local community.

Rapid and reliable

Metrobus is a new rapid public transport system for the West of England region. The routes have been designed to fit in between the region’s rail and local bus network and do those long distance, cross-city journeys which the existing bus network doesn’t do so well.

Off bus ticketing, dedicated bus lanes, prioritised traffic lights, fewer bus stops and direct routes will make our services faster, more frequent and more reliable than regular bus services.

Unlike regular bus services, we’re a buy before you board service. Buying before you get on the bus means our boarding times are up to five times faster than a regular bus service.
