£1 million resurfacing works across Bristol city
A £1 million project to resurface and reconstruct nine roads across Bristol to improve highway surfaces is set to begin in February.
The nine locations have been selected based on city-wide digital surveys, which prioritise roads because of their condition and usage. Works will begin from 17 February and will continue through to the end of March 2025.
The areas being resurfaced include:
- Fifth Way in Avonmouth
- Long Cross and Kings Weston Lane roundabout in Lawrence Weston
- Bridgwater Road and Kings Head Lane roundabout in Bishopsworth
- Stoke Lane in Stapleton
- Manor Road and Snowdon Road junction in Fishponds
- Westbury Road and Falcondale Road junction in Westbury-on-Trym
- Constitution Hill, from Jacob’s Wells Road to Bellevue, in Clifton
- Merchants Road and part of Cumberland Basin Road in Hotwells
- Bedminster Road, from Parson Street to Bedminster Down Road, in Bedminster
We use the latest technology, alongside walked inspections and reports from the public, to monitor the condition of our roads to plan in our resurfacing works.
Councillor Ed Plowden, Chair of the Transport and Connectivity Committee
I am really pleased we’re investing in these high use areas, which should improve the overall driving and cycling experience and make sure our infrastructure can support the increasing demands of our growing city.
The programme of work involves a mixture of resurfacing and reconstruction. Road resurfacing involves removing the top layer of the road and replacing it. Reconstruction work is more extensive and involves replacing the lower layers to address defects which shorten the service life of a road.
The work will take place overnight where possible to minimise disruption. The roads, or sections of the roads, will be closed, with signs and diversions in place to guide traffic.
These works are being funded by the Department for Transport and the council’s highways budget.
