Description of work and disruption

In July work started on the lower part of Whiteladies Road to: prevent localised flooding, make the pavements more accessible, and cycling safer.

Since then the road has been closed to motor vehicles travelling northbound from Whiteladies Road’s junction with Queens Road up to its junction with Tyndalls Park Road and St Pauls Road.

To carry out drainage investigatory works, we also need to close the same section of Whiteladies Road heading southbound.

This means from 9.30am on Monday 1 to Friday 12 December the lower part of Whiteladies Road will be totally closed to motor vehicles with a signposted diversion in place. Delays are to be expected.

On Saturday 13 December Whiteladies Road will reopen southbound and we are aiming to reopen the road northbound by 19 December. This means it should be fully open by the end of the year.

In 2026 construction work will continue to complete drainage, pavement, cycle path and resurfacing works on this lower section of Whiteladies Road.

Thank you for bearing with us while we work to improve this area for everyone.

Access for pedestrians and cyclists

Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained on the pavement (west side), but cyclists should dismount

Access for motor vehicles

The lower section of Whiteladies Road will be closed in both directions from 1 to 12 December.

If driving southbound, the diversion is via St Paul’s Road and Queens Road.

If driving northbound, the diversion is via Queens Road and St Paul’s Road.

Access to drive to and from properties along the closure will be maintained at all times but there may be times when it is restricted or temporarily delayed.

For properties north of building 15, including 15, access will be from the St Paul’s junction end of the closure.

For properties south of building 15, access will vary as the works progress.
