Plimsoll Bridge overnight closure for essential maintenance
To allow the council to carry out repairs and maintenance to its structure, Plimsoll Bridge on Brunel Way (A3029) needs to close overnight on Tuesday 10 March between 8pm and 6am.
The swing bridge, which travels over Cumberland Basin, needs to close fully as it will be swung open to repair its bearings and maintain the drains.
All traffic will need to follow the signposted diversions.
The southbound diversion will be via Hotwell Road, Merchants Road, McAdam Way and onto Brunel Way.
The northbound diversion will be via Brunel Lock Road, Merchants Road, Cumberland Basin Road, and onto the Portway or Faraday Road.
People intending to travel overnight on Brunel Way are warned to expect delays and to consider finding another route.
Councillor Ed Plowden, Chair of the Transport & Connectivity Committee, said: “Plimsoll Bridge is part of a major route to and from south Bristol, including Bristol Airport and Ashton Gate Stadium.
“We’ve planned in the closure overnight so it will have as little impact as possible, while avoiding big events at the stadium. However, we recommend leaving more time for your journeys or finding alternative routes while the bridge is closed.
“Thank you for your patience as we work to maintain this aging structure, which will improve its resilience and reduce the need for it to be closed in the future.”
