A4 Portway weeknight resurfacing works

Essential resurfacing works will be taking place along the A4 Portway throughout this summer and autumn.

From 27 July to 26 October during weeknights only, the A4 Portway will be closed from 9pm to 5am in both directions and traffic will be diverted to allow the resurfacing works to take place.

The Portway between Sylvan Way and Hotwell Road will be resurfaced from 27 July to 2 October and the road will be closed Monday to Friday between 9pm and 5am.

From 5 to 26 October the Portway from Park Road to Sylvan Way will be resurfaced and the road will be closed Monday to Friday between 9pm and 5am.

The route will reopen at weekends and the overnight closures will be delayed or postponed if there are evening events at Ashton Gate Stadium and for the Balloon Fiesta on weeknights.

The contractor who will be leading these works is Taylor Woodrow. For access concerns or issues, email [email protected] or call their emergency number at 07825327922

Traffic diversion

There will be no weeknight access for vehicles from Sylvan Way to Hotwell Road from 27 July to 2 October

The signposted diversion will go from the city centre, via Park Street, Whiteladies Road, and the Downs on the A4018 and then onto A4162 and in reverse.

For properties on The Portway, including Bristol Manor Farm Football Club, access will be managed by marshals at the closure points.

During the resurfacing work between Park Road and Sylvan Way from 5 to 26 October, there will be a signposted diversion in place.

Buses using the Portway will be diverted while the road is closed. The Portway Park & Ride will continue to be served by buses throughout.

Cyclists and pedestrians can continue to use the Portway throughout the works.
