What is a WESTbusStop+?

WESTbusStop+ is a bus stop with more.

You can park your bike, or hire an e-scooter or WESTbike. In some areas, you can also catch a WESTlink minibus.   The idea is to bring everything together to make it easier to switch between different types of transport to get from door to door.

There could also be community facilities like parcel lockers, water fountains and free WiFi.

10 new WESTbusStop+ sites are being created. Over the next 12 months the idea is to see if people find them useful. Your feedback will be vital throughout as we learn lessons. If successful, more locations will be considered.

Where can I find one?

The sites are:

  • Portway Park & Ride
  • Long Cross (Ridingleaze)
  • Arnside Road (Southmead)
  • Filton Avenue (Horfield Library)
  • Church Road (Filton)
  • Gainsborough Square (Lockleaze)
  • Abbeywood Retail Park (Stoke Gifford)
  • University of West of England (UWE) Frenchay Campus
  • Lyde Green Park & Ride
  • St James’ Place (Mangotsfield)

FAQS

  • In March 2022, local residents were asked what facilities they would find most useful for a WESTbusStop+ in their area. Your ideas are now being used. For example, thanks to your feedback individual secure cycle lockers are being installed at the two Park & Ride locations, and there will be water fountains provided at other sites.

Local people have helped to create colourful artwork  at workshops organised by artists which will be featured at seven of the WESTbusStop+ sites.

  • The first WESTbusStop+ will open around autumn 2024. Each site will take on average only six days to install. Final dates for each of the sites will be available soon.

  • Each WESTbusStop+ will be in place for at least 12 months. Views, suggestions and feedback will be collected from people who use the WESTbusStop+ as well as local residents and businesses. This will help show if people value the additional facilities.

  • There will be a QR code at each WESTbusStop+ which can be used at any time to feedback.

This will also be available online or by emailing [email protected]. In addition, on a couple of days people will be out and about to collect your views face to face at a WESTbusStop+.

  • The West of England Mayoral Combined Authority will collect the feedback and share this with the Department for Transport as well as other organisations who are developing sites like these nationwide. We want as many people as possible to know your experiences so that future WESTbusStop+ sites can be designed to be as useful as possible.

The West of England Mayoral Combined Authority secured funding from the UK Government to run this year-long study into WESTbusStop+
