Hire an e-scooter, park your bike, repair a puncture, access WiFi, and much more at one of our trial travel hubs.

Travel hubs bring transport and facilities together in one convenient location as part of a new trial for the West of England – aiming to make it easier to travel seamlessly and sustainably using buses, e-bikes and e-scooters.

Ten trial sites have been created at the places below across north Bristol and South Gloucestershire close to bus stops and local shops.

  • University West of England Bristol
  • Abbey Wood Shopping Park
  • Arnside Road
  • Gainsborough Square, Lockleaze
  • Horfield Library
  • Filton Church
  • Lyde Green Park and Ride
  • Ridingleaze, Lawrence Weston
  • St James’ Place, Mangotsfield
  • Portway Park and Ride

Each one has designated parking for e-scooters and bikes making it simpler to connect with local bus services along with a number of local facilities including:

  • Seating areas with plants and drinking fountain
  • Secure cycle lockers to keep bikes safe
  • Bike pump and repair stand– to fix minor issues while on the move
  • Free Wi-Fi and mobile charging points
  • Parcel lockers (coming soon)
  • An easy-to-operate defibrillator

Local residents helped to design each travel hub by suggesting what facilities would be most useful.

Maps and directional signage will be added shortly to help people navigate the local area, as well as colourful art inspired by the local community – making each travel hub unique.

Over the next 12 months, we’re going to be looking at how people use travel hubs and which facilities are the most useful. You can get involved in this process by taking part in our online survey. Let us know what you think of the new facilities as well as giving suggestions for future sites.

Our travel hubs are funded by UK Government.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • In March 2022, we asked local residents what facilities would be most useful for a travel hub in their area. Now those ideas are being used – individual secure cycle lockers are being installed at the two Park & Ride locations, and there will be water fountains at others.

Local people have also helped to create colourful artwork at most sites working with artists.

  • Each hub will be in place for at least 12 months. Views, suggestions and feedback will be collected from people who use the sites as well as local residents and businesses. If well received, then the sites will become permanent.

  • Tell us what you think – you can make anonymous suggestions and feedback about our travel hubs sites by completing the online survey. This can also be accessed via a QR code at each site.

We’ll also be out and about occasionally collecting the views of people at the travel hubs.

  • The overall feedback will be shared with the Department for Transport as well as others developing sites like these nationwide. This will help improve the design of any future sites.
