    Industrial action to affect Great Western Railway until Saturday 11 May

    Strike action to affect Great Western Railway has been announced by the ASLEF union.

    Today, Strike day, Wednesday 8 May

    On Wednesday 8 May, between 07:00 and 19:00, an extremely limited service will operate across the Great Western Railway network.

    A very limited service will run only on the following routes between:

    • Reading and Oxford
    • Reading and Basingstoke
    • Reading and Redhill (peak time only)
    • Reading and Newbury
    • Westbury and Swindon (peak time only)
    • Cardiff and Bristol
    • Exeter St Davids and Barnstaple
    • Exeter St Davids and Exmouth (calling at Exeter Central, Digby and Topsham only)
    • Penzance / St Erth and St Ives (09:30 to 12:30 and 15:30 to 19:00)

    Thursday 9 - Friday 10 May:

    The Night Riviera Sleeper is cancelled on all days.

    Services on the days before and after strikes could also be affected by a limited number of short-notice cancellations and alterations due to industrial action short of a strike.

    Saturday 11 May:

    Normal level of service. Some alterations and cancellations.

    Industrial action to affect CrossCountry until Saturday 11 May

    Strike action and an overtime ban to affect CrossCountry services has been announced by the ASLEF Union.

    Great Western Railway:

    Monday to Thursday:

    The 20:48 London Paddington to Swansea service will be diverted after Cardiff Central, and will run a few minutes later than usual from Bridgend onwards.

    The 21:48 London Paddington to Swansea service will be diverted after Cardiff Central, and will run later than usual from Bridgend onwards.

    The 22:49 London Paddington to Swansea service will be diverted after Cardiff Central, and will run later than usual from Bridgend onwards.

    Tuesday to Friday:

    The 03:46 Swansea to London Paddington service will start earlier than usual at 03:41, and will call at Neath, Port Talbot Parkway and Bridgend earlier than usual before being diverted between Bridgend and Cardiff Central. After this, the train will run as normal.

    Transport for Wales:

    Monday to Thursday:

    The 23:15 Cardiff Central to Carmarthen service will be replaced by a bus throughout.

    Tuesday to Friday:

    The 05:32 Swansea to Manchester service will start from Cardiff Central at 06:35.

    Monday:

    • The 06:12 Frome to London Paddington service will not run. You should travel by later services.
    • The 06:18 Yeovil Pen Mill to Filton Abbey Wood service will start from Westbury at 07:18. For travel between Yeovil Pen Mill / Frome and Westbury, you should travel by earlier or later services. For Bruton, you should travel by later services.

    Tuesday to Friday:

    • The 06:13 Bristol Parkway to Westbury will operate in two parts: 06:13 Bristol Parkway to Bristol Temple Meads and 06:40 Bristol Temple Meads to Westbury. Customers should change at Bristol Temple Meads.
    • The 07:01 Salisbury to Bristol Temple Meads will start Warminster at 07:24.
    • The 09:30 Weymouth to Gloucester will operate in two parts: 09:30 Weymouth to Bristol Temple Meads and Gloucester and 12:07 Bristol Temple Meads to Gloucester. Customers should change at Bristol Temple Meads.
    • The 13:30 Cardiff Central to Portsmouth Harbour and 13:23 Portsmouth Harbour to Cardiff Central will call additionally at Dilton Marsh (on request).
    • The 15:30 Warminster to Bristol Temple Meads will start from Westbury at 15:41. The 15:12 Westbury to Warminster will NOT run.

    Amended 23:42 Swindon to Cheltenham Spa service from Monday 6 to Thursday 9 May

    Engineering work is taking place between Swindon and Gloucester, closing all lines via Kemble.

    As a result, the 23:42 Swindon to Cheltenham Spa service will be diverted via Bristol Parkway (calling), and will not call at Kemble, Stroud or Stonehouse. On Tuesday only, the train will terminate at Gloucester. For travel between Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa, you should travel on earlier train services.

    A replacement bus will run from Swindon to Cheltenham Spa (disembark only at Gloucester). On Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, you should use the train for Cheltenham Spa where possible.

    As a result:

    The 21:23 Portsmouth Harbour to Bristol Temple Meads service will terminate at Westbury, with a replacement bus between Westbury and Bristol Temple Meads.

    The 23:06 Bristol Temple Meads to Frome service (Monday and Tuesday only) will terminate at Bath Spa. A replacement bus will run from Bath Spa to Westbury.

    The 23:45 Bristol Temple Meads to Frome service will not run. A bus with limited stops will run from Bristol Temple Meads to Westbury, and a minibus will run from Bristol Temple Meads to Frome, calling at all stations.

    Replacement bus stop info:

    At Freshford, replacement buses will call at the Old Bakery instead of the station, and at Westwood Village instead of Avoncliff station.

    Most fast trains from London Paddington to Oxford will not run.

    Most trains to Worcester / Great Malvern / Hereford will not call at Radley. (Additional trains will operate from Didcot Parkway and Radley to Oxford).

    To London Paddington:

    Trains to London Paddington will arrive London Paddington in revised timings, most later than normal.

    Most fast trains from Oxford to London Paddington will not run.

    Most trains from Hereford / Great Malvern / Worcester to London Paddington will not call at Radley. (Additional trains will operate from Oxford and Radley to Didcot Parkway).

    Most fast trains from Swindon to London Paddington will call additionally Twyford, Maidenhead and Slough. Some will operate in revised timings.

    Local Services:

    For most of the day the hourly service between London Paddington and Didcot Parkway will operate between Reading and Didcot Parkway only.

    Tuesday to Friday

    The 03:46 Swansea to London Paddington will start from Cardiff Central at normal time (05:07). If you are travelling from Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot Parkway and Bridgend, you will need to travel on later services.
