Bristol City Council – Employer small sustainable travel grant terms and conditions
The aim of the employer small grants is to provide financial support and incentives to employers to enable them to encourage sustainable modes of commuting or in-work travel (including site visits and meetings) amongst their staff.
These small grants can be used for the implementation of physical measures, promotional events or any other measure that will encourage mode change amongst staff.
Examples of these include running an active travel breakfast, small cycle parking initiatives, or initiatives to encourage walking and cycling.

About the grants:
- Grants are offered subject to our standard Terms and Conditions. Please ensure you read the terms and conditions below before applying.
- Grants will be assessed on merit.
- These are fully funded grants of up to £250. For initiatives over £250 please apply for our match funded grant scheme
- For active breakfasts and promotional items there is a limit of £8 per staff member.
- A quote is required as part of your application. Grants will not be awarded without supporting quotes for your application.
- As part of the grant award process, your organisation will be required to complete a follow up survey after the initiative has been completed.
Data protection
The data that you provide on this document will be held on a secure server and used for the purposes of determining the success of your grant application and providing the grant funding to you. Your personal data will only be used for this purpose; anonymised data about the grant scheme will be provided to our project auditors UWE and our project funders the Department for Transport.
Terms and conditions
Pre-requisites:
- The business applying for support must be based in Bristol.
- A quote is required as part of your application. Grants will not be awarded without supporting quotes for your application.
- The scheme must be completed within 6 months of the grant being awarded.
- Grants will not be awarded retrospectively.
- It is favourable that provision of goods or services should be sought from the West locality where possible and when offering best value.
Changes to the agreed project/scheme
- The council will be informed of any proposed changes or amendments to the project and reserve the right to withdraw support should these be considered unacceptable. If so, the council will require the grant to be either fully or partially refunded depending on the extent of the changes.
- If, for any reason, the project does not take place, the funding will be returned in full to the council.
Monitoring of impact and benefits
- As part of the grant award process, your organisation will be required to complete a follow up survey after the initiative has been completed.
Publicity and promotions
- The council’s contribution will be acknowledged in any publicity generated by the employer.
- The Travelwest + logo and the council’s name/logo must not be used without permission.
- The employer agrees that the council may use this project in future publicity/promotions;
Please note:
a) The grant covers the net price of the measure only – the Council is unable to provide funding for VAT. The VAT cost must therefore be covered by the applicant company.
