Operational information

Congresbury Carers is a small organisation of volunteers who give their time in driving elderly local people to medical appointments within North Somerset where there is no public transport.

Drivers use their own cars and will collect clients from their home. We can assist clients into and out of the car, but we have limited capacity for stowing walking aids and cannot assist with manual handling, such as pushing heavy wheelchairs.

Our services include:

  • Dial a Rides: Book door to door rides for medical appointments

We ask that clients give as much notice as possible to enable a suitable driver to be booked. This should be a minimum of two days.

If clients only require a one-way journey, they will still have to pay for a return journey.

We normally have a two-hour limit on the time that the driver would be expected to wait for the client during their appointment.

Any car parking fees or other costs are paid for by the client.

The co-ordinator will confirm the pickup time, the driver’s name, and approximate cost of the journey.

Membership and fees

We ask for a donation from the client (payable to the driver) to cover costs. This varies according to the journey.

Booking trips

We operate from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday. Prospective clients should contact the co-ordinator to discuss their needs. To book call the team or email your journey requirements, contact details can be found here.
