We provide door to door visits to hospitals in and around North Somerset.

Operational information

We receive requests every day for residents registered with both Portishead surgeries. Patients phone the surgeries and a standard form is filled in by reception. There are no age restrictions, however we do take accessibility into account. Some, but not all of our drivers, are able to take a small lightweight foldable wheelchair – this depends on the individual driver and should be checked beforehand.

Once requests have been received, we diarise them, then contact all our drivers to see who is available to take the patient.

The driver then contacts the patient and arranges a pick-up time. The driver picks up the patient, takes them to their appointment, and waits for up to 2 hours to finish. They are then driven home.

Our charges are all set and cover fuel and vehicle wear and tear. Patients pay the fee to the driver.

We operate 7 days a week from early to late, and also cover public holidays.

Membership and fees

There is no membership required.

Journey prices are worked out based on mileage from the central surgery in Portishead to all different destinations, and are at the Government ruling of 60p per mile.

Booking trips

We require at least 7 days’ notice for all bookings.

All patients are picked up from their home, taken to appointment then waited for by same driver and returned to their home. The waiting time is 2 hours.

When the driver contacts the patient, they will inform them of the collection time and charges.
