Bristol on the Move website launches
A new website has launched today (Thursday 23 October 2025) to help people stay informed about three major transport projects in Bristol. Visit the Bristol on the Move website to explore the plans, timelines, and how construction work could affect journeys across the city.
These three projects featured are:
- City Centre – covering Broadmead, Temple Way, Redcliffe Way, Bedminster Bridges and Bond Street.
- Bus Route 2 – a 13-mile route along the A37 and A4018 connecting Henbury and Stockwood via the city centre.
- A4 Portway – a six-mile stretch from Portway Park & Ride, along the Avon Gorge, to Hotwells, finishing near the Mardyke Wharf car park.
The website brings together information about each of these transport projects – from the plans and construction schedules to traffic impacts, news and events.
A new film on the site sets out the vision for Broadmead, based on the Bristol City Centre Development and Delivery Plan. It shows how the area will evolve over the next decade to reflect changes in how people live, shop and socialise.
Bristol is changing, and our transport network needs to keep pace. The City Centre, Bus Route 2 and A4 Portway projects will help us make better use of shared space and improve how people move around the city.

Change isn’t always easy, especially during construction. That’s why we’re phasing the work to reduce disruption and why we’ve launched the Bristol on the Move website to keep people updated. It’s a one-stop-shop to find out more about the projects, how they could affect journeys, and how to access incentives to switch the way you travel, like free bus vouchers and bike loans.
The need for change is clear as our population continues to grow, especially in the centre of the city. Our roads will only get more congested and journeys will take longer if we do nothing. It’s time to rethink how our streets work for everyone – whether you walk, wheel, cycle, take the bus or drive. By making bus routes faster and more reliable, and active travel routes safer and more pleasant, we’re giving people more options to move about the city.”
The website is being funded by the UK Government, through the Department for Transport’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement, secured by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority.
Helen Godwin, Mayor of the West of England, said: “There is significant investment being made across Bristol and the wider West to help reduce congestion, improve public spaces, and give more people more sustainable travel options.
“The council’s new website shares how we’re working in partnership with them to get the basics right by fixing our roads and bridges and improving our walking and cycling infrastructure. These projects will lay some of the foundations for a better transport system overall for the West of England.
“Thanks to the record £752 million that we secured in the summer’s Spending Review for future transport investment, we can move the West out of the slow lane and start to catch up with other city-regions, with better buses, more trains, and mass transit plans.”
