Chew Magna High Street resurfacing – please plan your journey

Bath & North East Somerset Council is advising people to plan their journeys between 24th – 28th July as High Street, Chew Magna receives essential resurfacing works.

Businesses along the High Street will remain open as usual with pedestrian access via footways remaining open throughout the works. The Pelican car park will still be accessible via Pine Court.

Works will be carried out under a full road closure between 7am-7pm each day, with the road and Pelican car parks’ main entrance reopened each evening, the road may reopen earlier each day if good progress is made on site. A road closure will be in place throughout these works for both B3130 approaches to the village.

The council will resurface 4,259m2 of highway during the works, which have been planned to take place over school summer holidays to minimise disruption. The council has also co-ordinated with Bristol Water who will be carrying out works under the same closure to minimise disruption further.

We’re progressing well through our annual resurfacing programme and it’s great to see the positive impact its making.

We always try to keep disruption to business, residents and motorists to a minimum and have planned to carry out these works over the school holidays to help with this as the volume of traffic will be lower. Allowing Bristol Water to also carry out some of their works under this closure has saved future disruption from occurring as well.

Councillor Manda Rigby, cabinet member for Transport

Section 58 restriction will be implemented for this section of road to prevent any planned street works for a three year period. This process helps minimise future disruption and helps prolong the life of the highway,

Diversion routes will be in place for traffic and advanced notices have been in place to inform motorists of the upcoming closure. Diversion routes can be seen on one.network.
