Following a hugely successful campaign in 2024, Cycle September is back once again to champion the joy of cycling. The scheme, run by cycling organisation Love to Ride along with local authorities from across the UK, aims to promote the wide-ranging benefits of cycling by encouraging residents to sign up and log their cycling rides throughout September.

Last year saw a recording-breaking campaign for Bristol, which topped the national leaderboard with nearly 1400 riders and over 130 businesses taking part. Throughout the month, Bristol alone clocked a total of 153,000 miles worth of cycling trips. These trips prevented a total 14,414 kg of CO₂ from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to planting approximately 660 trees and letting them grow for a full year.

The Love to Ride website makes it easy to track cycle journeys throughout the month and features a leaderboard for those who enjoy a bit of friendly competition. Riders who log their rides this month will also be in with a chance of winning a range of cash prizes.

Last year’s Cycle September campaign was a huge success here in Bristol, with more people hopping on their bikes and getting involved than ever before.

Since last year’s campaign, we’ve worked hard to make cycling safer and more accessible across the city. With upgraded infrastructure in areas like Park Row, the Centre Promenade, and Princess Victoria Street, along with initiatives such as accompanied bike rides, cycle training, and bike loan schemes to help new riders gain confidence, it’s no surprise that more and more of us are signing up for this year’s challenge.

It’s inspiring to see so many people already taking part, and I’m excited to see even more residents discover the joy and freedom that cycling can bring this September.”

Councillor Ed Plowden, Chair of the Transport and Connectivity Committee

Livy Wallis, Love to Ride Project Manager, Bristol, said: “It was incredible to see people all over Bristol get out on their bikes last September, including some people who hadn’t ridden for years.

“After such an amazing year, we now have a vibrant Love to Ride community of over 6,000 riders who are supporting each other to ride and who are making the city even better for biking. Bring on Cycle September 2025!”

Bristol cyclists looking to get involved in this year’s campaign can sign up on the Love to Ride website
