Bristol Brabazon and Henbury train stations

New train stations are proposed as part of MetroWest Phase 2 to serve Henbury and Bristol Brabazon.

These new train stations will form part of the Henbury spur and a new hourly train service will run between Bristol Temple Meads and Henbury, calling at Lawrence Hill, Stapleton Road, Ashley Down, Filton Abbey Wood and Bristol Brabazon.

The two new stations will provide access to train services for existing residents as well as linking in with major new developments taking place at Brabazon and the new communities in the Henbury area.

Planning permission for Henbury station was granted in October 2025 by South Gloucestershire Council, while work on site at Bristol Brabazon is already underway. The planning application for Bristol Brabazon was approved in 2023.

The Full Business Case for both stations was approved in October 2025.

The above map shows the planned locations for the new Bristol Brabazon and Henbury stations. The rail line is currently freight only and runs along the southern edge of the former Filton Airfield which will be home to the new Brabazon development. Bristol Brabazon station will be located to the east of the Brabazon Hangars. Henbury station will be located to the east of Wyck Beck Road (A4018).

Bristol Brabazon

Bristol Brabazon train station will sit in the heart of the new Brabazon development of 6,500 new homes, three new schools and employment areas creating 30,000 new jobs. The station will be close to the new events arena being delivered by developers YTL, scheduled to open in 2028. The station will be close to the A38 Gloucester Road North. It will be served by an initial hourly service between Bristol Temple Meads and Henbury station, and will be staffed at busy times.

The station will link to a new public square to the north of the rail line, providing a key gateway into the new Brabazon district. Entrance to the station will be via a new office building being delivered by YTL.

The new public square will provide a gateway between the station and the Brabazon district as well as linking to transport interchange opportunities with segregated cycle lanes and bus stops nearby a station square constructed by YTL, with drop-off spaces as well as locations for rail-replacement buses.

Bristol Brabazon train station will include:

  • Two platforms, connected by a footbridge and lifts to ensure step-free access for all users
  • Ticket machines on both platforms
  • Ticket gates within the station entrance building
  • Cycle parking, under cover, at the entrance to the station
  • Covered waiting areas on both platforms
  • CCTV coverage for the safety and security of users
  • Accessible (‘Blue Badge’) car parking spaces close to the station entrance

Henbury station

Henbury station will form a terminus and turnback facility for the Henbury spur and is located close to the A4018 Wyck Beck Road. The station will serve established communities in the Henbury line to the south and west of the station as well as the new communities becoming established to the north.

The station entrance will be via a new link to Gainsborough Avenue with additional access provided for pedestrians and cyclists with a new ramp which will provide a more direct link between the station and the A4018 corridor. As well as providing a more direct link to the station from the south and west, the link will improve transport interchange opportunities along this key corridor. A car park will be located on the northern side of Gainsborough Avenue with 31 spaces, including 3 charging bays for electric vehicles. Accessible ‘Blue Badge’ holder car parking bays will be located at the entrance of the station. As well as bus interchange opportunities on the A4018, bus stops will be located close the new station access road on Gainsborough Avenue.

The station will be served by an initial hourly service between Bristol Temple Meads and Henbury (also serving Bristol Brabazon Station). It will be an unstaffed station.

The new Henbury station will include:

  • A single bi-directional platform (as the station forms the terminus and turnback point for the new Henbury spur)
  • Ticket machines
  • Cycle parking at the entrance to the station
  • Covered waiting area on the platform
  • CCTV coverage for the safety and security of users
  • A 31 space car park and an additional three ‘Blue Badge’ holder accessible car parking spaces in the station forecourt.
