Bus fares changes
Most adult bus fares across the West of England and North Somerset are changing from 1 January 2025.
This follows the announcement that the current national £2 bus fare cap will increase to £3 from the same date.
The West of England Mayoral Combined Authority and North Somerset Council have worked closely with First Bus to keep fares for most passengers 20% lower than the government’s cap, and among the lowest in the country.
All under 16 bus fares will continue to be £1 for a single journey.
Key changes
First Bus – adult single fares
- Bristol, Bath and Weston – £2.40
- Journeys under 6 miles in West of England zone* – £2.40
- Journeys over 6 miles in West of England zone* – £3

Fares on metrobus services will rise to £2.40 single in line with First Bus services.
Some commercial services are partially subsidised by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority – fares will increase to bring in line with the changes announced by First Bus:
- Service 522
- Evening journeys on Service 2 in Bath
- Evening journeys on Service 6A
- Service 17 (Kingswood-Keynsham)
- Sat/Sun journeys on Y6
Fares on some journeys on services 12, 86 and 620 will also change. If your journey is partly or completely within the West of England zone*, fares will increase to £3 (in line with the national fare cap). Journeys within the Bristol zone will not change.
Rider, multi-operator, day and week tickets for Bristol and Bath zones will also be increased in line with First Bus fare changes. Find out more on our Rider Tickets page.
All other services supported by the West of England Mayoral including WESTlink and WESTlocal will remain unchanged at present while fares are being reviewed.
