New transport hub planned for Pill
Plans for a new transport hub in Pill, North Somerset, are moving forward with works set to start early January...
In Autumn 2014 the government announced the creation of the Local Highways Maintenance Challenge Fund worth £575 million nationally split into two tranches over the next six years from 2015/16 to 2020/21.
The fund reflects the government’s commitment to ensure a well maintained local highway infrastructure and enables local highway authorities to bid for major maintenance projects that would otherwise be difficult to fund.
Cleveland Bridge, which carries the A36 through Bath, is a historically and strategically significant structure. Surveys have identified that structural components of the bridge are life expired and in need of maintenance, repair or replacement. Due to the extensive nature of the refurbishment and the cost of these works, the Council is seeking to secure financial assistance from the Government through the Highways Maintenance Challenge Fund to ensure the long term integrity of the bridge.
